This stylish aquamarine ring is surrounded with a bevy of brilliant cut diamonds to create a remarkable piece. Looking closely at the diamonds we can see the unusual manner of the claws. They rise from the finger up to the face of the ring, securely encasing each diamond. While the claws fade away into the background from a face on view, they can be admired and appreciated from the side. It looks similar to a crown.
The aquamarine in this stone is a marquise cut stone. It is elliptical in shape with two pointed ends. The stones shape dates back to 18th Century when King Louis XV of France commissioned a jeweller to design a cut shape that resembled the lips of his mistress. Thus the marquise was formed. ?Marquise? by name refers to the hereditary rank above a count but below duke. It became popular due to the fact they wore marquise cut diamonds to showcase their rank.
Nowadays it is seen as very unique cut stone, but one that is adored by so many. On the hand, this ring lengthens the finger and has a wonderful sparkle.
At Courtville Matthew Weldon we love finding unusual and interesting pieces. This ring can be purchased instore, in our shop in the Antiques Gallery, Powerscourt Townhouse Dublin or online through our secure website.
